Hi Paul,

I saw your post on Frog Fan Forum about wearing your TCU shirt

at the game. That's great. I enjoyed visiting Lincoln and catching

your show. I am a writer for a TCU sports publication and I did

a postcard recap from Lincoln after the game that I thought you might

enjoy. If there were any inaccuracies, blame the upside down ritas

   for the memory lapse.

Best of Luck in the Championship Game, and ignore the whine

   and cheese from Boulder.

AN E-CARD FROM LINCOLN

The Cornhusker fans are probably the classiest group of supporters in

All of college football. They gave the TCU players a standing ovation and

encouragement when they left the field after the game, and were

friendly and helpful around town with advice and directions, or a simple smiling

welcome and genuine concern about TCU's injured players. The Nebraska

cathedral, Memorial Stadium, is an impressive massive structure that holds around

77,000 fans, and most of the sea of red are in the stadium an hour

before kickoff. There is a picturesque statue at the old main entrance that

was modeled after an actual game photo - six Nebraska defenders tackling a

poor Kansas State ball carrier.

Inscribed on the four corners of the stadium are the following words:

"In Commendation of the men of Nebraska who served and fell in the

Nations Wars."

"Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the

deed the glory."

"Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of

manly sport."

"Their Lives they held their countrys trust; They kept its faith; They

died its heroes."

WHERE EVERY HUSKER KNOWS YOUR NAME

The Sidetrack on "O" Street in Lincoln has to be one of the most

Unique places to visit before a game. The line of regulars forms outside at

6:30am for the 8:00am opening. By 9:00am, the place is wall-to-wall with

soon-to-be-inebriated loud and festive Husker fans renewing old

acquaintances and talking about the Nebraska two-deep roster. The main

attraction is Joyce Durand, a loveable old bar hag straight out of the

pages is a Dan Jenkins novel, and her bearded sidekick Paul. For the past 25

years, Joyce has led the entire bar in a wide variety of off-color

songs and humorous chants, mostly about Husker football. The most memorable

selections included a "We Don't Know The Words" version of the Nebraska fight

song, a takeoff of The Who's "Pinball Wizard" about Tommy Frazier, and an

interesting twist on Billy Joel's "For the Longest Time," where

everyone stands and snaps their fingers. Regulars from the audience are called

up to make guest cameos, sing solos or tell jokes, including a funny Joe

Paterno look-a-like.

Rest assured, this is not a place for the easily offended. But if

you're looking for a unique, distinctly Nebraskan experience, then this is

the place to check out. It is a bar where everyone knows the scores and

details of Nebraska's national championship seasons, and '72 Heisman winner

Johnny Rodgers is still a god. Make sure to write down on your napkin that it

Is your first time there, and give it to the band. If the audience is

good, then Joyce may declare its Magic Margarita time, and the patrons will

plop their heads on the back bar while the tequila concoction is mixed in

their mouth.

The fans of opposing teams are treated as VIP guests and invited to

Sit at the front tables. They are greeted by the hundreds of red-and-white

Clad Husker fans, who continually offer to buy or fill your drinks while

Wanting to learn all about your team. The Frog fans who were "Sidetracked"

Were warmly embraced, especially after they learned of our mutual hatred

Toward UT, A&M, OU, Tech, Baylor etc, as well as our dislike for college

Analysts such as Lee Corso and Craig James. Corso is rumored to be a regular on

Stage when ESPN's GameDay broadcasts from Lincoln. After the game, TCU fans

Were seen trading their hats, taking off and exchanging their t-shirts with

Sidetrack regulars and the band, and dancing the loss away with the

Nebraska fans well into the night. Spend a few hours with Joyce and the band,

And you'll be singing the Nebraska Fight Song all the way back to Fort

Worth!
